Arsenal's new centre-back Stathis (Efstathios) Tavlaridis
has been loaned out to our Belgian "little sister" club
Beveren until the end of the season (see onefootball.com).
Arsenal only announced his signing last week, although we suspect he had a good idea he was
coming this way a month earlier (as we did).
Can't help wondering though, if he knew he was going to be
sent to Belgium for a year as soon as he got here.
So far there's no confirmation from the official Arsenal site. Maybe they're waiting till everyone'sread their new "Tavlaridis factfile" before revealign that he's leaving. Or maybe it's just another dodgy rumour - news on the Beveren connection has always been a bit liek that. Stepanovs was supposed (ie alleged) to be going at one point. Jerome Thomas went and then came back. . Maybe he was mistaken for Tomas who is there, but is he on loan or has he been sold? If true, Tavlaridis joins David Grondin and Tomas Danilevicius at Beveren,
where he'll presumably be able to show Tomas what a real Greek passport looks like!
Beveren are in a bit of a state at the moment. Technical chief/benefactor Jean-Marc Guillou sacked popular coach Emilio Ferrara last week, and took over team matters himself. He doesn't
have the support of the fans who are campaigning for Ferrara's reinstatement. But on taking over Guillou did promise to get more out of the relationship with Arsenal. |
