Football Broadcast are linking us with
Southampton defender Wayne Bridge. Bridge has won a fair
few admirers this season, and was linked with Tottenham earlier in the year. He has a good amount of experience for a 21 year old,
having already been a regular in their first team for 4 years.
They're having a busy day at Football BC, as they've also
revived the David Dunn story. The Blackburn midfielder has also been catching the eye this year, both for Rovers and the England U21 team, and is thought to have a chance of forcing his way into the World Cup squad.
Not a lot of substance in these rumours, it has to be said.
But maybe there is in the following...
Arseweb's thanks go to Matt Hogan who spotted something on
Planet Football's Transfers page. They
reckon that Arsenal have taken Fulham's 22 year old
Kieran McAnespie on loan, as of last Friday. Planet Football
list him as an attacking midfielder, but the official
Fulham site say he's a left back (see profile), which makes a lot more sense from Arsenal's point of view. The 22 year-old Scot was in their 1998 World Cup squad, and Fulham loaned him to Hearts earlier this season. Although he's thought to have lots of potential, he's
not managed to force his way into Jean Tigana's starting eleven.
In case there's a danger of Arseweb reader's getting over-excited about this, please note that as yet
I've found no mention of the loan on either club's website.
A few Arseweb readers have been quick off the mark to write
and point out that there's some rule preventing Premiership
clubs from loaning to each other. But does anyone out there
know the exact terms of the rule?
For example:
- Could we take him if he hasn't been used in the premiership
(which he hasn't)?
- Or could we take him but not use him in the premiership?
- Perhaps he hasn't been registered this season...?
- Could it technically be a a trial?
Still, chances are it's a gremlin at PlanetFootball.
Finally, a transfer rumour we can all believe in 100%. Inter's Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf has been linked with Arsenal by, errr.., Clarence Seedorf.
(story first posted morning of Monday 26/11/01. following bit added late Monday night...)
Matt's written in again to clear up the McAnespie thing. According to
this report from the official Fulham site,
McAnespie came on as a sub in a reserve match for them
this evening. Gremlins it is.
To their credit, we've now received an apology for the confusion, from
Adam Marshall at Planet Football.
