There are reports coming in from Essex,
that Arsenal striker Graham
Barrett has joined Colchester United of Nationwide division 2 on
a month's loan.
(Now confirmed on official Colchester Utd website)
Despite early promise and a few appearances on the bench, Barrett's Arsenal career could be set to become one of many loan spells. The last one, at Crewe, ended 2 months ago. Last season he was in Bristol for a while.
Barrett's only 20, so there's hope for him at Arsenal yet.
But he seems to have been overtaken by Aliadiere and others,
and hasn't even featured in the Worthington Cup side this season.
But to be fair, he was out of action for a good part of last season with glandular fever. So for his sake let's hope he takes this chance to re-stake his claim.
And (oops) many thanks to Paul Burland for reminding me that
we couldn't have included Barrett in the Worthington Cup squads because he was cup tied after appearing for Crewe. But
there's still plenty of reason to believe that Aliadiere and Pennant
have jumped ahead of him in the first team fringe's pecking order.
