It's a warm welcome back for an old Arseweb favourite... the rumour that we're poised to sign David Trezeguet for a world record fee.
The News of the World had unusually good sources for its story on Sunday that Trezeguet's agent met with Arsene Wenger and David Dein last week, to discuss the purchase of the only current French international striker that we haven't yet owned... their website has actual photos of Antonio Caliendo apparently on his way out of an airport terminal (not sure which?) en route for Highbury.
He told the paper: 'My meeting and discussion with Arsene Wenger went very well. David is very excited about the possibility of joining Arsenal.' The fee, apparently, would be a mere £50million... with Sylvain Wiltord and Kanu being 'offloaded to balance the books'. (And the rest?)
We can't help thinking that only the sale of Patrick Vieira would give us that sort of money, especially with a new stadium to build... but the paper reckons Trezeguet's signing would be an attempt to keep his best mate at the club.
Juventus have issued denials in Monday's Italian papers, which seems an unnecessary effort, all things considered. |
