The Mirror reckon that Chelsea's French defender William Gallas
is set to move following his criticism of boss Claudio Ranieri
at the end of the season. Gallas described the Blues' season as 'unacceptable' and their defeat by Villa on the
last day of the season 'pitiful.'
He is said to be unhappy that Ranieri keeps changing his role in the side, and the paper says that Arsenal are looking at the
possibility of invoking a get-out clause in his contract
which would allow us to buy him for £7.5m.
Meanwhile it's also being reported that Arsenal are reacting
to all the talk of Keown being a target of Newcastle, by
doing their utmost to find a compromise with the England defender.
He wants a 2-year deal and he'd only been offered one (so the
story goes..). Given the desire on both sides, one has to be
optimistic that something will be worked out. 18 months maybe?
Or 1 year with some kind of option for a second.
Tony Adams has confirmed that he won't be rushing his decision
about whether to retire or not. But he did say he'll be talking to Le Boss before Wenger flies off to Japan for the World Cup.
His decision could also be influenced by a knee scan and a chat with a doctor (today) about his likely fitness level if he did stay another season.
Tone says he wouldn't want to stay on if he can't do the busines on the pitch.
Well, his influence when he came back towards the end of this season was immense. It's hard to believe that his form could have to drop off so
dramatically over the summer that his contributions next season
would be anything but the best.
I have to admit to being a bit perturbed by Martin O'Neill's
comments... "He was a truly world class defender who had a magnificent career and he always came across as being in it for Arsenal's cause rather than for personal glory."
(italics added). I trust the Celtic boss is just being a bit previous, and that it's not that he knows something we (and Tone)
don't yet.
