We reported last week that the Austrian FA were saying that Arsenal were due to play a friendly against SV Wüstenrot in Vienna on August 1st. It appears that there is some doubt over thsi fixture now.
ArseWeb reader David Robinson is due to be in the area, so he
emailed SV Wüstenrot to check. They replied as follows:
"It's not sure if this game takes
place because SV
Wüstenrot Salzburg plays national league at this
weekend, but we try everything that we can
play against Arsenal."
Worth noting that they don't seem to be in any doubt over Arsenal's availability.
Wüstenrot reckon they'll have a better idea what's happening in a week or two.
Meanwhile, from usually reliable sources, we've come by a
list of games Arsenal are due to play in Austria at the start of August.
Wed 25 Jul 1860 Munich in Wattens (Innsbruck)
Mon 30 Jul Real Mallorca in Kufstein
Wed 01 Aug SV Austria Salzburg in Salzburg
Playing a German and Spanish teams in Austria...? The matches
look too far apart to be part of one of those mini-tournaments.
Still, let's just say for now that it's looking more and more
likely that the club will be visiting Austria around the start of August. But don't go booking your holidays around them yet!
And yes, Wüstenrot Salzburg is the same club more usually referred to as Austria Salzburg in the UK. See their website. |
