Exit one ITV franchise, enter a couple of new ones. United News and Media is now the name in the frame to purchase Arsenal, following the news that London TV company Carlton has lost interest. The name UNM may not mean much to you, but they own the Express newspapers, and the Daily Star; they have stakes in national TV names such as ITN and Channel 5; and are owners of a couple of the smaller ITV franchises: Meridian (southeast of England outside London), Anglia (East Anglia) and HTV (Wales and the West). It will come as absolutely no surprise if I tell you that Meridian, Anglia and HTV are ALL committed to showing the Man United game in Europe on Wednesday, with only delayed, middle-of-the-night coverage of our crucial Wembley clash with Lens. Gee, thanks guys. |
