Carlton doing it again...? by Rupe
on 22/3/01 at 13:36
this is story 36 of 62 in this topic to date
On reading the following article, ArseWeb reader John Copley rang Carlton to complain. He says, "I was somewhat surprised when they informed me in no uncertain manner that they intend to screen the Arsenal game (on ITV). I'm not sure this was just a bluff to cut me short, however I was assured that the Arse game would definitely be shown.".

If this is true then fair play to them for finally getting it right. We'll call a truce. But seeing as not only the ITV website but Carlton's own site also stills says they're showing Leeds (see their listing for 4th April), let's make it provisional for now...

(see this item for happy follow-up)

It comes as no surprise to learn that Carlton appear, once again, to be refusing the chance to show Arsenal live in the champion's league.

Our quarter-final first leg, at home to Valencia on Wednesday 4th April, clashes with Leeds game against Deportivo La Coruna. While we have no particular problem with ITV sport choosing the Leeds tie at a national level (we can only hope that Arsenal will get the nod for the crucial second leg), Carlton do have the option to show something different. Other regional stations do it. Carlton, according to the listings at the ITV football website, won't.

But the Arsenal game will presumably be on the digital channel ITV2, going out on the part-Carlton-owned OnDigital.... it's all so horribly predictable.

See here for the déja-vu stuff.
