The viewing figures for ITV Sport, the new digital terrestrial and cable channel to which most of Arsenal's Champions League games have been consigned, are not great... and UEFA is not best pleased.
Spokesman Mike Lee has apparently admitted that the viewing figures are 'disappointing' - and says: 'We would like the games to be made available to a wider audience.' But ITV remain defiant, and say they are 'very pleased' with how things are going for a channel born barely two months ago.
Arseweb has been complaining about TV coverage of this competition for longer than we care to remember - and in fact, we've probably let London TV franchise-holder Carlton off too lightly this season. It's good to see UEFA taking up the slack.
Rupe adds...
A disgruntled Adam Harman writes to point out that the poor viewing figures for Arsenal games (less than a third the number that watched Man Utd play Deportivo, for example) could be connected to the failure of London's cable companies to do a deal for ITV Sport.
