According to a report in this morning's Sun, ITV have indeed asked - and received - permission to show the Liverpool-Barcelona Champions League game on 20 November... despite the fact it's on a Tuesday, and hence against the terms of their contract.
We speculated - with some justification, given past experience - that it was another slap in the face for Arsenal fans... but wait! What's this lower down the article? 'Viewers in the capital will see Arsenal's clash with Deportivo La Coruna in Spain the following night instead.'
Carlton, we salute you. Or rather, we will when we see the confirmed listings.
Note: fans outside the Carlton/LWT area may yet be able to see the game - on Sky Digital. ITV is currently running tests of all its regions on digital satellite, if you know where to look. It seems likely that some sort of encryption will be applied for football programming like this, but that remains to be seen (or not). For more info - look here.
