Arsenal games on a Saturday by Ashburrn

this is story 31 of 33 in this topic to date

Due to a legal ruling which states that Sky or the BBC cannot televise Premiership games which kick off at 3 PM on a Saturday (protecting lower division clubs), many Arsenal fans clamour to pubs with satellite TV.

These pubs broadcast channels from other European countries, which this ruling does not affect, and therefore are able to show selected Premiership matches. The channel most likely to be showing Premiership matches is called Canal+.

First you need to find a pub with satellite TV. Those of you in Portsmouth Southsea can go to the Snooker Club on Commercial Road. It is essentially a Man Utd club, with Man Utd games getting priority, then Liverpool and then Arsenal, but Man Utd have been playing so many noon kick-offs that Arsenal games take centre-stage most of the time.

For those of you in London, hop over to:

  • The Boston Park opposite Tufnell Park tube station on the Northern Line.
  • The Shaftesbury on Hornsey Rise (which is about a ten, maybe fifteen minute walk from Highbury) seems to show live almost every game we play.
  • The Worlds End, just down the road from Finsbury Park station, shows Canal+ games as well.
  • Wig & Gown on Holloway Road (3 minutes walk from Highbury & Islington tube station) also has satellite broadcast.

For a list of what Canal+ will be showing, click here.

If anyone else has a list of pubs that show Arsenal live on a Saturday at 3 PM, please don't hesistate to e-mail ArseWeb and we'll post it here.

Rupe adds...
More pubs are listed on the pubs page. The list is not always completely up-to-date, consisting as it does of information sent to us over the course of several years, but it provides a good starting point. Please always ring a pub before setting out on a long journey to it on the basis of information provided on Arseweb (rather than blame us if they're not showign the game you wanted to watch!)
