The officers report to Islington Council regarding Arsenal's
Ashburton Grive and related planning applications is now
available.
Paul Matz of AISA has got a copy of the 900 page document, and sends this preliminary assessment,
"The VERY short version is the applications for all three sites are
recommended BUT with conditions. More on this when I've finally plowed
through it."
We expect more from Paul when he's found time to read
it. One has to think that there will be one or two councillors who don't find the time to read it all between now and the meeting on Monday week.
Copies of the report are available by ringing a
Brian Webb at Islington Council on 020 7527 3006 or by
e-mailing him at:
brian.webb@islington.gov.uk
There's still time to influence the outcome. The special full council meeting that will vote on the application(s) on Monday week (10th December)
but it won't end then.
AISA are organising an early evening pro-Ashburton Grove lobby of councillors on the 10th and a social event later on that night. See AISA web site for details.
The opposition to the plans seem to be focussing their attentions now on a call for a public inquiry (see ISCA website), which suggests that they think they might have
done all they can regarding the council's decision. But AISA
are taking nothing for granted.
Non-Islington residents can concentrate their efforts on
Ken Livingstone (mayor@london.gov.uk)
or Secretary of State for transport & local govt, Stephen Byers (stephen.byers@dtlr.gov.uk). If the council say "yes" then the Mayor has some kind of veto,
and if he says "yes" then the Secretary of State has the power to overturn both Ken and Islington. It is Byers who would make the decision about whether or not to hold a public inquiry.
