Tottenham H 2 - 1 Arsenal
Iversen Vieira
Sherwood
No matter how good a game it was, no matter how good the performance of each team... we all know what the headlines are going to be about.
David Elleray disallowed what seemed to be a perfectly good goal, and managed to find two red cards and a stack of yellows in a game which wasn't especially nasty. Keown went for two yellows - although the second surely didn't merit one. And as for Ljungberg...
Watch the replays. Ljungberg was caught late by Edinburgh's back leg. He was wrong to push the guy in retaliation - but Edinburgh had no reason to collapse on his back clutching his head. Ljungberg was wrong to keep mouthing, but he clearly had some justification.
Yes - he did flick a V-sign back towards the ref. And in case you missed it, yes he did kick a door on his way down the tunnel. So now we're facing another 'Gooner disgraced after red card' incident. And what do you bet, the FA will smack him with a suspension of Vieira proportions.
Elleray reckons that there was a headbutt by Ljungberg on David Ginola. Well, Arseweb sources with access to the Sky TV feed certainly didn't see anything. It'll be interesting to see what video evidence is dug up.
As predicted, the papers are asking questions of the club's disciplinary record under Arsene Wenger. But we're not convinced. In this case - and not for the first time, the Arseweb finger points at David Elleray. |
