Watford (0) 2 - 3 (3) Arsenal
Vicarage Road, Sunday 23rd April 2000
FA Carling Premiership
Henry got 2 of Arsenal's 3 first-half goals, first clipping
a great pass from Petit under the keeper and then stroking the
ball past him after taking the ball past several defenders.
That was on the stroke of half-time. Between Henry's goals
he created on for Parlour who showed good composure to round
the keeper and slotting home from a narrow angle.
The Arsenal appeared to think the game won, and nearly came
unstuck when 2 Watford goals in as many minutes brought them
right back into it.
But the Gunners hung on, and the win takes us 3 points clear of
Leeds (who drew with Newcastle) and the same distance behind Liverpool, with a game in hand (and a goals-diference
advantage) over them both. Man United may have won the title
yesterday, but the race for second and third looks likely to
go all the way. At a time like this
you have to admit that UEFA's crazy complicated qualification
system does at least keep things interesting.
