Arsenal (1) 2 - 1 (0) Chelsea
Highbury, Saturday 6th May 2000
FA Carling Premiership
Two-goal Thierry Henry was the important difference today as Arsenal
relegated Chelsea to UEFA Cup football next season, at best
(perhaps through the Intertoto) and made Arsenal's automatic
Champions League spot virtually safe.
Each time, a French teammate of Thierry's was partly responsible.
First Le Boeuf failed to make an easy interception which sent
Henry clear on De Goey. He showed
great composure, taking his time to find a spot past the prone
keeper and Le Boeuf.
At the start of the second half Bergkamp passed forward,
and Henry muscled his way past Desailly to get into a similar
position as for the first goal on the left of the box. This
time he slotted the ball past De Goey earlier.
Chelsea came back into it a bit nearer the end, with (why is he ever a..? ) substitute Poyet coming up with a nice finish in the box.
Barring something awful happening in terms of goal-difference,
only Leeds can catch us now. But a point against Sheffield
Wednesday or Newcastle and we'll be clear.

Not only do Arsenal now only need to win the rest of their games for a record winning run, but if Henry scores in his next game
he'll have equalled Ian Wright's record of goals in 10 successive appearances.
