Kevin Phillips, having recently made the mistake of being an Englishman and scoring the most league goals in the Premiership last season -- and thus confirming that the England manager of the day would ignore him during Euro 2000 -- looks to be absent from the Sunderland line-up when Arsenal visit in the season opener next Saturday (dodgy knee).
Not that we would have said this a year ago, but this would appear to be a Good Thing. Arsenal fans can now lick their lips at the simpler prospect of an Adams v. Quinn aerial battle -- just like back in training when Kenny Sansom and Gus Caesar used to "knock it long"... those were the days, weren't they?
Weren't they?
[good use of irony in reference to club's Route One pedigree -- ed.]
