Chelsea (1) 2 - 2 (0) Arsenal
Stamford Bridge, Wednesday 6th September 2000
FA Carling Premiership
Another extraordinary away match at Chelsea. Arsenal coming back from 2-0 down like last year, but no magic ending this time.
Maybe that's not fair on Silvinho, whose 20 yard rocket swerved and flew just inside the top corner to earn a point with 5 minutes to go.
Chelsea had the better of the first half, and went ahead thanks to a precise Hasselbaink shot after Luzhny and Silvinho had tangled and the ball ran to him. Arsenal started the second half better but went 2 down to another great strike: Zola from the edge of the box.
Arsene Wenger then showed his colours. We weren't winning the battle in midfield so "sod midfield, let's play with 50 strikers".
On came Bergkamp and Wiltord, off went Dixon and Parlour, and
5 minutes later Henry had pulled one back after superb build-up by Silvinho and Pires, leaving Silvinho to finish the job with that thunderbolt.
A night of pride for London football I think. Despite the hype it was a hard-fought but well-fought match, the few moments of over-aggression not sparking things off like many expected.
Other results saw us slip to 4th in the table.
