Bradford City (1) 1 - 1 (0) Arsenal
Valley Parade, Saturday 9th September 2000
FA Carling Premiership
Some of us who breathed a sigh of relief at not having to
visit bogey-ground Hillsborough this season might be wondering if
Bradford City's tight little stadium mightn't become a similar
source of dropped points. For the second season running Arsenal failed to get the expected 3 points, and at the end it was only
Benito Carbone's 40grand/week finishing that spared us.
Assistant coach Stuart McCall put the home side ahead after 11 minutes, driving low through a crowded box after Keown's defensive header fell to him. After that, and in contrast to last year, Arsenal had City on the back foot. We hit the post, had some good efforts well saved, and 2 that the keeper couldn't get to were cleared off the line. But there are no excuses for failing to capitalise on such dominance, and with the rest of the season in mind this is still the one thing that needs changing.
I didn't see their game against Man Utd but it's possible that Utd didn't have much more play than Arsenal. They do tend to score goals though.
The high point was the fact that it was youngster Ashley Cole, in for the injured Silvinho, who scored the goal. The second time in successive games that our left back has saved the point.
It was a
tap-in from the six-yard box, Henry having beaten the offside trap and squared from the right, but full credit to Cole for getting up that far.
