Arsenal (2) 4 - 0 (0) Leicester City
Highbury, Saturday 25th August 2001
FA Premiership
I guess only conceding 4 goals at Highbury is a bit of a result
for Leicester. For Peter Taylor's sake, let's hope
they can pick themselves up from this abysmal season's
start.
The first 2 goals were sweet, reflecting Arsenal's fast
one-touch passing football. Bergkamp started with Wiltord
up front, and looked good. But the real star once again
was Robert Pires.
Adams set the ball rolling for the first, sliding over the
smooth Highbury turf to retrieve a ball destined for a
goal-kick. Pires managed to keep the ball in, played a 1-2
with Wiltord, and then hit a cross low into the 6 yard box
for Ljungberg to poke home.
Pires started the move off for the second, feeding
Wiltord on the edge of the box and then moving forward to
pick up the squared return (helped on it's way along the
line by an exquisite touch from Bergkamp). He was clear on
Flowers but opted unselfishly to square for Wiltord who'd
moved forward into acres of space on the far side of the box,
and couldn't really miss.
We found it harder to break them down in the second half,
which went somewhat flat especially after the double sending
off of Wise and Vieira for second yellow cards (I think). I can't comment too much on that,
not having had a good view of the crowd of players that
congregated in the centre circle after a foul by their sub Delaney
(also booked).
I reckon this means that Vieira will miss the Chelsea
game (along with Parlour).
Henry nabbed the third thanks to a huge deflection, and Kanu
nodded in the 4th at the death after Flowers parried Henry's
effort straight to him.
