Arsenal (0) 3 - 3 (1) Blackburn Rovers
Highbury, Saturday 20th October 2001
FA Barclaycard Premiership
Despite some good attacking play in the first half
Arsenal afield to break through.
Bergkamp came close
a couple of times with curving shots from just inside
the box, both of which just cleared the post on the
wrong side. And Pires was unlucky not to get a penalty
when Brad Friedel brought him down as Bob was coming in
to pick up a rebound from the American keeper's block.
And with 5 minutes to go before halftime Keith Gillespie
saw his shot squirm past Richard Wright thanks to a wicked
deflection off Gio van Bronckhorst.
Arsenal came out fired up for the second half and within
10 minutes we were ahead. First Pires fired through a crowded
box and 5 minutes later he did well to keep the ball in
then found Bergkamp from the goalline. Friedel got to
Dennis's powerful volley but couldn't keep it out.
But David Dunn equalised from 30 yards, again with a little
help from a deflection.
Wenger brought on Wiltord and Kanu, without taking Henry
or Bergkamp off. Wiltord was involved in our 3rd soon
after as Dennis and then Sylvain combined to set up Henry,
whose first touch took him past a defender and second
went in low past Friedel.
But 2 minites from time it was Dunn again who
finished the scoring, when the ball came to him after
Wright had advanced to block Mark Hughes.
A disappointing result after having been ahead twice,
but the point takes us above Leeds to the top of
the
table. Leeds are at home to Chelsea on Sunday.
