Nicolas Anelka, peripatetic footballing gadabout, all-around world-famous younger brother of Claude and Didier, and undoubtedly the most misunderstood sporting personality since Red Rum, has signed with Liverpool on loan from PSG.
The former Highbury fan favourite [surely not? ed.] may sign with the Merseysiders on a permanent basis at the end of the season for 15 million, or so say the Guardian and The Times.
Sadly for travelling Gunners fans, the one-time hot property -- who mysteriously has never really scored goals in numbers sufficient to justify the ridiculous sums spent on him by crazed European chairmen -- will not arrive in time to make today's lineup against Arsenal.
From the Liverpool perspective, the strategy must be to replace the disruptive presence of a player who was nevertheless a terrace hero with... the disruptive presence of a player the fans will hate unreservedly? Hmmmm.
More when we can type without laughing.
