Riise confirms Taylor error, Seaman to try again by Rupe

In an interview after the Liverpool game yesterday, with Norwegian paper VG, Liverpool goalscorer John Arne Riise confirmed that Stuart Taylor was at fault for that equaliser...

"I was confident that the Arsenal goalie would come out to get the ball. My first thought when I saw the pass was that I had no chance of reaching it, and for a moment I almost stopped. But then I saw that the goalie remained on his line, and I thought 'what the hell is he doing'? And then I just increased my speed."

We all saw Taylor's positioning and hesitatation. This confirms that he would have been ok if he'd come out a bit more sharpish.

(Thanks to Eirik for the quote)

Taylor's been doing really well this season in an unexpected first-team role, and his lack of experience was bound to cost us a goal sooner or later. At least the defence is looking better these days.

It could be a while yet before there's much pressure on Taylor's place though. Richard Wright seems to be struggling to regain full fitness, and it's announced today that Dave Seaman is soon to return to full training. Wenger says he could be ready for a reserve game in 3 weeks. Seaman's last comeback effort was cut short when a lack of shoulder mobility indicated that he needed an operation.

Perhaps Wright just hasn't got back in because of Taylor's form. It'll be interesting to see if this error is enough for Le Boss to give the big-money man another chance. We think Taylor will have learned this lesson now.
