Charlton Athletic (0) 0 - 3 (3) Arsenal
The Valley, Monday 1st April 2002
FA Barclaycard Premiership
Arsenal went top of the table today, using up just one of their 2 games in hand today, with
Liverpool and Man Utd (lest we forget) still involved in
the Champions League this week.
But if Arsenal have been rocked by the exit from europe, it certainly doesn't show. Once again the policy of taking the
game by the scruff of the neck from the start paid off,
and once again Arsenal went into cruise mode when the game
was safe.
Today's goal action....
16 minutes. A Campbell clearance falls for Henry who
leaves Rufus trailing in his wake and finishes immaculately
when one-on-Kiely.
21 minutes. Rufus gets too close to Henry again,
closer to goal this time. Henry turns him and passes through
the defence for Bergkamp. Dennis's cross (shot?) is run into
the net by Ljungberg.
25 minutes. Ljungberg and Wiltord create a second for Henry. Sylvain could have a shot but unselfishly
crosses for Thierry to put into an empty net.
Another plus today was the return to first-team action of
Martin Keown, who slotted back in seamlessly. But there's a
worry over Ashley Cole who had to go off after 35 minutes.
It's the same medial ligaments that he's only just returned from an injury to. Wenger says, "It is bad news for us and England. But he says it is not as bad as the first time and it looks optimistic, but he will be out for Saturday. He tried to play on with it but he couldn't. He should be okay for England."
