Everton (1) 2 - 1 (1) Arsenal
Goodison Park, Saturday 19th October 2002
FA Barclaycard Premiership
Well, the unbeaten run is over, Forest's record is safe.
Arsenal took the lead through Ljungberg after about 8 minutes.
Henry's harmless cross was fluffed by David Weir and then Kanu
failed to control it too. But Toure was on hand to knock it across the goal to Freddie who poked it past Wright.
But Tomas Radzinski (the main thorn in our side for most
of the game) equalised halfway through the first half after Carsley's shot had come back off the post.
n the last minute of normal time, 10 minutes after coming on for Radzinski, schoolboy superstar
Wayne Rooney won it
with a fantastic 25 yard strike. He then almost chipped Seaman for 3-1 in
injury time.
Seaman has a decent game, and didn't have a chance for the winner. Huge credit goes to the Everton fans for applauding him
at the start of the game.
Freddie and Henry had each missed a couple of excellent chances before that, including
one time when Ljungberg and Kanu got in each other's way 6 yards out.
Toure had started instead of Wiltord, who came off the bench in the second half. Apart from that the team was as expected.
It's worth noting that although a couple of record-breaking runs have come to an end (unbeaten Premiership games, unbeaten away games), and a couple of notable targets are now unreachable (for a while), we did set a new record today, of 25 consecutive scoring away matches (overtaking Man Utd who we were equal with on 24 before today). See Record-breakers page.
But the important stat today is that Liverpool's win at Leeds
takes them top of the table by a point. They are now the only
unbeaten team in the Premiership.
