Man City vs Arsenal: keepers out by Rupe

this is story 385 of 603 in this topic to date
Freddie Ljungberg is still not ready to return to first team action. He has played a couple of reserve gamnes but is still struggling with his injury and Wenger has decided to give him some more time. Martin Keown is also thought to be out of Saturday's trip to Manchester City, with the back problem that kept him out of the Ajax match, although it's not definite. Luzhny's is also a doubt with the calf injury he's had.

David Seaman is definitely out of Saturday's game, but Arsene Wenger has said that he is confident that he'll be ok for the trip to Amsterdam next week. Arsenal have, incidentally, taken the precaution of ensuring that Craig Holloway is registered for the Champions League. It has been confirmed that Guillaume "Willy" Warmuz (apparently they call him Gus at the club but we think "Willy Warmuz" has a good ring to it) suffered a minor injury on Monday, but Wenger has said that he is available so we can only assume the injury has healed. However Wenger also confirmed that Stuart Taylor will continue in goal against City.

City will also be without their first choice keeper Peter Schmeichel, The big Dane hasn't played since pulling out of the Manchester derby on February 9th with an injury picked up during the warm-up. Carlo Nash will continue to deputise.

Danny Tiatto is injured and definitely out, and Eyal Berkovic is a major doubt. The Israeli playmaker also hasn't trained since the derby game. Paolo Wanchope is close to a comeback from injury, but would probably have been kept on the bench for the Arsenal game by Anelka and Fowler. An ex-Gooner and a player who always seems to score against us... can't help feeling we'll need to score at least 2 to win this one!

Republic of Ireland defender Richard Dunne should return to the City line-up in place of Sylvain Distin, who is suspended.

Rupe adds...

Friday update... TeamTalk reckon that Berkovic has a good chance of being fit. But given their headline, "Keown struggling to face Gunners", we're are no more sure of the reliability of their sources than usual!

Other sites are agreeing with them so I guess it's true. About Berkovic that is, not about Keown trying to switch sides!
