Bergkamp Henry
Despite a frustrating international summer for so many of our stars, Arsenal are still on a high. Vieira is staying, and even without him we can romp to victory if we're in the mood.
The first goal came midway through the first half. Reyes broke away from the halfway line, latching onto a pass from Henry on the left touchline. The Spaniard took it forward to the edge of the box where Stubbs got a tackle in. But Henry had followed up and pounced on the loose ball, bringing it into the D. He could have had a shot but saw Bergkamp's overlapping run into space on the right. Dennis took the pass, measured his shot, and drilled it low beneath Nigel Martyn.
The second goal came after a Lauren cross from the right had missed everyone in the box. But Freddie got hold of it on the far wing and took it forward before crossing again. Reyes had stayed in the box, moving quietly into space while 3 defenders stood like statues, watching Freddie rather than Jose. Until the cross came over and Jose stooped to head it home, at which point they stood and watched that instead. Turrible defending.
As predicted, Cesc was playing in Vieira's position, alongside Gilberto. He had a strong game and nearly got a goal after Martyn got a finger-tip onto a chipped cross by Henry, which stopped it falling nicely for Freddie. But the ball ricocheted back to Cesc just inside the box and, to be fair, Martyn did well to get back into position to save the youngster's drive.
Thet was early in the second half. It wasn't long before Dennis pulled the strings again - setting Henry clear down the right from where he slottde a pass into the 6 yard box, perfect for Freddie to slip between 2 defenders and tap it in for 3-0.
More Vieira-esque stuff from Cesc saw him bring the ball forward and then pass it early for Henry's run. He carried it forward till
he could see the whites of Marryn's eyes, but then he "over-shimmied", beating himself in a slightly Kanu-esque way.
Then Everton got one back. A nice goal to be fair, with Lee Carsley playing a 1-2 with Gravesen to get clear in the box (the latter's part being a nice scooped lob over the defence) before knocking it past the exposed Lehmann.
But then a shot from Henry, from distance, was spilled at his near post by Martyn. Cole was following up but Martyn's presence at that left hand post forced him to aim high and it came off the crossbar. But Pires was on hand to knock it in for 4-1.
Arsenal need a point from the next match at home to Boro, to equal Nottm Forest's all-time top-flight record of 42 undefeats.
