International week weakens both Arsenal and Villa by Rupe
on 15/10/04 at 00:12
this is story 491 of 603 in this topic to date
Both Brazilian midielders miss the game against Villa on Saturday. Gilberto is still out with his back injury (now diagnosed as a cracked vertebra) and Edu is out because he'll be back late from international duty.

Freddie Ljungberg is also unlikely to feature, because of a hamstring problem. He had to come off because of it during Sweden's 4-1 win over Iceland.

So it looks like Vieira and Cesc in the middle. Perhaps Pennant on the right?

Gael Clichy returned from French U21 duty with an ankle injury and misses out too. But Ashley Cole was rested before the international break so should be ok to play.

Wenger says he'll be leaving his team choice till late, to see how the players feel when they get back from the midweek games.

Villa have keeper Thomas Sorensen out with a back injury. Stefan Postma will start, with Wayne Henderson on the bench after being recalled from a loan at Notts County. But Carlton Cole has been back in training after an ankle problem, and is expected to be able to play. But Juan Pablo Angel and Nobby Solano are major doubts for the same reason as Edu.
