Team news for Watford - backs back but not ready by Rupe

Arsenal have a couple of defenders returning from injury for tomorrow's visit of Watford, but a new injury, to Emmanuel Eboue, leaves us unsure of the back four.

With Lauren still recovering from knee surgery, there are 2 obvious options at right back. Kolo Toure has done well there before, but Wenger is likely to be loathe to mess around with Kolo's position. That leaves Justin Hoyte, originally a right back before being used on the left by Sunderland in his loan spell last year. Hoyte shouldn't be needed on the left anymore, with Gael Clichy back in the frame at last. But word from the official site is that Clichy won't start against Watford. Phillipe_Senderos is also back from injury and has been working on his fitness in the reserves but reports suggest that he too isn't ready to start a game.

If this is true, then we're left with Hoyte on the right, William Gallas on the left, and Toure and Johan Djourou in the middle. Djourou's looked good, and could even be pushing a fully-fit Senderos for 3rd choice centre-back. Matthieu Flamini is an obvious alternative on the left, but Wenger lists only Gallas and Hoyte as options there, apparently having completely dropped the idea of Matty at left-back. There's another left-back waiting in the wings now too, with 16 year old Armand Traore having signed a professional contract with the club.

Eboue is out for a while thanks to a medial knee ligament injury picked up on international duty, definitely for Tuesday's trip to Moscow and beyond that for up to a month. We've also got new injuries to Freddie Ljungberg (calf, international duty) and Julio Baptista (hamstring, in a closed-doors friendly with Charlton in midweek). But neither is an automatic first team choice right now. Chances are we'll see the obvious midfield 4 of Gilberto, Cesc Fabregas, Tomas Rosicky, and Alexander Hleb with either Robin van Persie or Emmanuel Adebayor partnering Thierry Henry up front.

Wenger thinks that Watford will come and have a go at Arsenal tomorrow "because they don't know any differently", which of course is what we like best. Main threat up front is Arsenal fan Marlon King but watch out for Ashley Young, too, who scored twice in the 3-3 draw with Fulham and who started ahead of Theo Walcott for England U21s before Theo came on and scored those 2 goals that have got everyone saying maybe he is ready after all.
