Arsenal suffered a 70 percent slump in pre-tax profits - from £7.1m to £2.1m - in the year to 31 May 1999. This is revealed in the club's latest annual report, according to Soccernet. Because of the Champions League campaign, the turnover was increased by 20 percent - from £40.4m to £48.6m. The report also reveals that an unnamed director earned more the last year than the best paid player, Dennis Bergkamp.
