Arsenal Ladies: 2 finals, 2 clashes by Rupe

Congratulations once again to Arsenal Ladies for reaching the final of the League Cup (for the 6th time in 8 years!).

Their opponents have now been confirmed as Croydon Ladies. Arsenal were beaten at home by Croydon earlier in the season, but this was Arsenal's first loss at the hands of their main local rivalsfor 3 years. 2 years ago, in Arsenal's double double season, Arsenal Ladies emulated the first team's feat of 1993-94 in beating the same team in both Cup Finals. Croydon Ladies played the part of Sheffield Wednesday. See here for the long list of honours picked up by the club in that season alone.

The match will take place at Barnet's Underhill stadium on Saturday 1st April kick-off 5:35, and we hope that lots of Arsenal fans will go along to cheer them on.

Less hope than we'd like though, seeing as the date and time leaves under an hour for fans to get from the Arsenal first team match at Wimbledon. And with the game being live on Sky (for the first time) it seems likely that Underhill will be less than full.

It's not just us at ArseWeb by the way, we understand that neither team is happy with the kick-off time. It's a huge shame, and all down to a bit of thoughtlessness on the part of the organisers. Surely Women's football needs the atmosphere of a big crowd as much as mens football does, and never more so than at a cup final.

Arsenal Ladies are also through to the final of the London Cup. Coincidentally, this is against Wimbledon, at Dulwich Hamlet FC on March 19th (kick-off 2pm). The same day as Arsenal vs Tottenham at Highbury...

(thanks to Mark Parsons for pointing all this out))
