Yesterday the Arsenal got a visit from the Duke of Edinburgh.
He met various club bigwigs, visited various parts of the stadium, and presented certificates of merit to members of Arsenal's Double Club (an after-schools
initiative set up by the club to offer literacy help to local
kids). He also met members of the Celebrity and ex-Pro XI
including Mark Ramprakash and Jimmy Carter. See AFCi
for official report of the visit including pictures.
But our thanks go to the Sun for bringing to our attention
HRH's latest gaffe. Ok, so it's not on a par with his famous
and frequent, let's say "questionable", racial comments made on foreign
trips. But it does show that he's perhaps not completely in touch
with the culture of the country.
Seeing the writing on his Arsenal shirt, the Duke asked the Prodigy's Leeroy Thornhill (Arsenal fan and celebrity team player) "Is 'Dreamcast' the name of the team?". It had to be explained to him that Sega Dreamcast were the club's sponsors.
A Buck Hice spokesperson said "he thought the celebrity team might have a different name". Sorry Phil, it doesn't wash.
(thanks to Dominic for telling us about the Sun's story)
