Is there really an appetite for a new Formula One-like racing circuit, where the cars are decked out in footie team colours? Well, former FA man Graham Kelly thinks so: he's part of Premier 1 Grand Prix, which has approached 24 major European clubs (four each in England, Italy, France, Spain, Germany and Holland) to put their names on cars in the 12-race season.
'The 24 clubs have been selected on the basis of their domestic performances of the last six years,' according to the Press Association. The Arsenal press office has confirmed that Highbury has been approached - but they aren't divulging the form of the approach, or their immediate reaction to it.
Interviewed on the BBC on Tuesday night, he said there would be no financial commitment from the clubs themselves... which might explain why 'nobody has turned (the offer) down'. Instead, idiots like you and me will be forking out for extra ticket sales, TV coverage, merchandise... etc etc.
