There is apparently some press association named ESM (which stands for "European Sports Magazines" France Football is part of) who names their best XI in Europe on a monthly basis.

For September the awarded players were : Flowers (Leicester) - Angloma (Valencia), Nesta ?!? (Lazio), Keown, Roberto Carlos (Real) - Scholl (Bayern), Van Bronckhorst (Gers), Ljungberg, Mendieta (Valencia) - Owen (Pool), Jardel (Gala)
