International breaks always seem to generate some random transfer rumours, often based on a smidgeon of fact coated in a healthy dollop of pure speculation. And so it proves with the latest nonsense, that...
Swedish superstar Magnus Hedman is apparently the subject of some interest from Arsene Wenger. Speaking on Tuesday, he said he wanted to play Champions League football... and realistically, that isn't going to happen at Coventry. So who's left in the CL, and in the market for a keeper??
Let's analyse this. Hedman was accepting the award of Swedish player of the year. At any event like that, he's going to be asked what ambitions he has in the game - and of course, he's going to say something like 'I want to play at the highest level'. It's a very small leap of faith for a tabloid hack to interpret that as a transfer request.
He's not a bad keeper by any means - and has had a couple of memorable performances during recent visits by Coventry to Highbury. But Wenger's already made clear his feelings about transfers at this time of confusion with the EU legislation. Plus Wenger's not shown any great desire to sign anyone over the age of 25 - and Hedman's 27. It's pinch-of-salt time.
And besides, this new fella Lukic has kept three successive clean sheets... who needs Hedman? |
