The Japanese FA have denied reports, widely circulated in today's British media, that they are hoping to lure Wenger to Japan to manage the national team at the 2002 World Cup finals. The Public relations chief for the Japanese FA said "It will never happen, we don't understand why his name has cropped up." He went to say that they were fully behind current coach Phillipe Troussier. See this Sporting Life/PA story for more.
In what could be seen by the more cynical as a destabilisation attempt by a former Tottenham player, Steve Perryman - until recently a coach in Japan - has been quoted as saying he believes Wenger will be Japan's coach for the World Cup.
