Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger is set to receive a salary of GBP 2 million per year. The offer from the club is set to keep the successful Frenchman at Highbury after his current contract expires in 2002. If he accepts the rumoured offer of GBP 40,000 per week, he'll probably earn more than any player in the current wage setup. And, according to the Mirror, if he wants more he can name his price. Wenger threatened to quit football if the new EU rules on transfers made it impossible to plan ahead and build team units. Since the EU, UEFA and FIFA made their deal, he has been linked with a number of top manager jobs in Europe. "It is not inevitable that I will leave," Wenger warns. But: "I'm very positive and I think I will stay... I haven't signed a new contract because I am busy and so are the other club officials. There's no major problem there, apart from finding the time to sit down and sign a contract," Wenger told the Mirror.
