More news from Belgium (although strictly speaking,
the Tom Soetaers
gossip comes from Holland).
Apparently Arsenal are in talks with SK Beveren regarding
a co-operative arrangement similar to that existing between
the Gunners and St Etienne. Man Utd already have a Belgian
"sister club" at Royal Antwerp.
Beveren have recently escaped bankruptcy. Here's
the official Beveren website, including English version, but no news of the Arsenal deal that I can find.
According to reports in Belgium,
the deal is due to be finalised tomorrow (along with
the Dudek and Nakata deals, the Seaman testimonial,
and the FA Youth Cup final. Busy day!)
See Belgian TeamTalk. Thanks to Franklin
Deliege and Dave Wheeler for tipping us off.
Rory Miller writes with an interesting theory. Apparently
Belgium have the least stringent immigration rules in the
EU, so perhaps a deal like this could provide a route whereby non-EU players could get EU residency on the way to an Arsenal move.
