Although he is not a fanatical gooner, Portillo's allegiance was apparently well known in the Conservative Association of his former constituency Enfield Southgate. The constituency is of course in Arsenal country, and their current MP Stephen Twigg was already on our list of famous gooners.

What we don't know for sure is whether or not Portillo's allegiance has survived his move to Kensington & Chelsea. It is of course possible that he's "done a Hoey" and switched clubs - he certainly attended a Chelsea match last year.

Or perhaps Michael's worried that people will just assume he's switching to Chelsea and wanted to set the record straight early. Clearly he's revealed his goonerdom for some reason. There are no unplanned leaks.
