Arsenal 2 - 0 Real Mallorca
Own goal 29
Van Bronckhorst 71
Arsene Wenger will be very happy with a solid performance in the Austrian Tirol, at what looked like a local park with floodlights. Early defensive confusion was soon replaced by familiar solidarity, and most of the new boys got a run out against reasonable opposition.
Sol Campbell is now officially an Arsenal player, having made his entry very late in the game - and, in truth, barely getting a sniff of the ball. And well done to Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, who had a fine game in midfield and got a goal for his efforts.
But Arseweb can't go without mentioning the new haircuts. It's a familiar footballer phenomenon, to bring in a new hairstyle over the summer. Tony Adams looked as if he'd been told to get his hair cut before visiting his mum - the sort of crop you probably hated getting as a kid. Robert Pires looks like he's going for a Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen job... and Fred Ljungberg's been at the red dye again. Thierry Henry was shaven clean, and Lauren's a bit tighter-cropped than before. No sign of Seaman so we can't report on the ponytail's status.
- UPDATE: we understand from our brilliant readers that: a) David Seaman's ponytail was witnessed at the Rushden and Diamonds game, apparently still connected to his head; b) a very odd picture on Soccernet shows Patrick Vieira has dyed his head orange - see for yourself!
One question... why were we playing in the old away kit?? |
