Chelsea chairman Ken Bates has failed in an attempt to
take over Arsenal vice chairman David Dein's role as
vice-chair of the Football Association.
Bates is on his way out of the FA's management board,
forced to quit at the end of this season because he'll
reach their age limit (of 70) during it. So he launched a
petty bid to upset Dein while he still could. The management board's vote last weekend was 3-3, forcing a second ballot yesterday which Dein won by an undisclosed margin.
Good news
for David and also for English football, if Bates's involvement
in the Wembley fiasco is anything to go by.
Bates and Dein have been at loggerheads since 1988 when
they disagreed over TV rights.
