It's a big week for UEFA, what with the Champions League draw, the traditional Super Cup damp squib, and the relaunch of their website. But somehow, they manage to squeeze in a big posh gala dinner on Thursday night.
At the event, European football's governing body will make presentations to the year's best goalie, defender, midfielder, attacker, manager - and the overall 'most valuable player'.
Arseweb is pleased to note that Patrick Vieira is on the three-man shortlist for the midfield honour (up against Figo and Mendieta!), whilst Thierry Henry vies with Raul and Elber for best striker.
Only six clubs are represented among the 18 nominees: Arsenal, Liverpool (McAllister and Houllier), Man U (Stam and Barthez), Valencia, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. The event is to be covered live on Eurosport from 8pm. |
