"Once managers know they will be sacked after one or two bad results they will not care about working at what makes the club strong," Arsenal's Arsène Wenger laments after 19 managers have lost their job in the last 9 weeks in English football. "I know this situation well because it has happened in Brazil," Wenger says to the Telegraph. "Brazilian football has started to decline because, when you lose two games, the manager is out.
"A new one comes in and changes everything. There is no continuity and no work with the youth-team players. I think a manager needs four to five years to work. "Why should a manager take a risk by putting his own youth-team players in the side?" is Wenger's rhetorical question. Why indeed?
