Here's a challenge to Tottenham fans.
On the official Tottenham website there's a poll being conducted
to find your player of the year 2001.
Now, everyone in the country knows who your best player was this year. Certainly every time we played you there was one player that stood out a mile. That's why so many Arsenal fans were so keen for us to buy him. That's why we did buy him.
Even struggling through injury he was keeping you in the
FA Cup semi-final single-handed. We Gooners all know that
if it weren't for his being forced to go off, that match
might not have been half as easy for us.
Now, as you may know, the rest of the country has a pretty
low opinion of the public face of Tottenham fans at the moment.
Spending all that money on "Judas" balloons, trying to
arrange an orchestrated protest at the derby match on Saturday...
a protest which didn't really happen, did it? (the most orchestrated feature of Tottenham supporters protests that day being the shameful shower of bottles and cans which greeted the Arsenal team's bus).
[Arsenal fans stop reading now, the next paragraph may cause
you to vomit over your keyboard]
So now's your chance to show how big you can be. To prove that
(as we at Arseweb honestly believe) the majority of Tottenham fans are true football fans who know quality when they see it
and are able to separate questions of football from misplaced questions of "loyalty".
Go to the poll now, and place your vote for Tottenham's one truly outstanding player of 2001. Arsenal's Sol Campbell.
Please note: you may find it hard to vote for Sol,
because the official Tottenham website appears to be
attempting to fix their own poll! Each player's name appears
in their list as an email link containing the name of the player.
But, uniquely, the email address in Sol's link has an extra dot before the '@' which looks like it would stop the email from
reaching its intended target! But if you wanted to, you could
probably work out whgat address to send your entry to by
looking at the links for the other players.
Arsenal fans: we, in all seriousness, are
not encouraging anyone other than Tottenham fans to vote in this poll. If you are tempted, please note that they ask for
membership/season-ticket numbers from voters. Votes from
Gooners will not be counted, so don't waste your time. |
