The news we have all been waiting for... Arsene Wenger is definitely, definitely staying.
A statement posted on Arsenal.com says: 'Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that manager Arsene Wenger has signed a four year extension to his current contract, ensuring that he will remain in charge of the Gunners until 2005, when the Club hopes to relocate to a new stadium at Ashburton Grove, Islington.' (You'd never guess the planning decision is imminent, would you??)
Subsequent statements posted on the official site contain a few quotes, but we'd expect more juicy stuff to come from the 12.30pm press conference.
- Wenger: 'I have always stated that I am extremely happy at Arsenal and naturally it is my aim to ensure that this Club remains one of the top teams in Europe.'
- Hill-Wood: 'Our future could not be in better hands. It is no secret that we have been approached by many leading European clubs concerning Arsene's services, so we are obviously delighted that he has shown faith in Arsenal Football Club.'
