Another charity case.... :-)
But seriously, it wasn't till I received an email from
a Wimbledon fan asking me to do this piece, that I realised
how serious the talk of them moving to Milton Keynes had become
(again). It had always seemed like a joke idea, and I have to admit I thought the whole idea had been rejected by the Football League.
It turns out that that's not the case. The FL are actually setting up a committee to look into the proposal and rule on it
(see press release).
I won't go into details of how the fans of Wimbledon are in
danger of being well and truly shafted by their chairman,
you can check it all out on the WISA website. Among
other things they provide realistic alternatives (redeveloping
Plough Lane is possible, and cheaper than the MK move).
There's one particular way in which Arsenal fans can help.
It turns out that one member of this arbitration panel
will be our very own David Dein. It seems to me that
Arsenal's actions regarding moving away from Highbury have demonstrated a good understanding of the relationship between a football club
and its geographical location. So I imagine Dein's presence
on the panel to be a good thing for the Dons fans. But it might not do any harm if he got a few letters from Arsenal fans
reinforcing this, and expressing support for their fellow fans.
