One of the weirder requests we've received at Arseweb....
Gooners travelling to the Newcastle game at the weekend are
invited to apply for a free DNA test. Here's the deal:
Outline Productions have been commissioned by the Discovery Channel to produce a major new documentary series presented by comedian Eddie Izzard, which
examines the historical origins of English national identity. The series celebrates the fact that 'The English' draw on a two millennia-old melting pot of cultures,
peoples and ideas in order to define who they are.
They're looking for a group of Arsenal fans
to take part in a sequence in which they will be measuring the percentage of people descended from Vikings in the North East compared to the South.
You would need to be available for filming in Newcastle (close to the ground) from 12:00 till around 14:30, before the big game this Sunday. You'll have a simple mouth swab to provide DNA for the test and will get the results (a service that normally costs over £150). You will also be provided with a couple of
drinks before the game.
If you're interested, please send an email to
Tom Adams at Outline. Please note (if you hadn't guessed) that
participants need to be "native North-Londoners". If you're not sure if you fit the bill, email Tom anyway and let him decide.
If you do end up taking part, please let us know how it goes.
