Kanu staked a claim for a place in the Arsenal attack by scoring the equaliser after 70 minutes at Celtic Park. The home team had taken the lead 13 minutes later after slack marking in the Arsenal defence. Kanu, a second half sub, scored when his pass for Francis Jeffers was deflected back into his own path. Jeffers himself had several chances in his full 90 minutes, but failed to score. At the other end, Jens Lehmann also completed 90 minutes with an assured display in goal. Sol Campbell was partnered by both Kolo Toure and Pascal Cygan, while teenage triallist Gaël Clichy got a look in at left back late in the game. In midfield, the captain was back: Patrick Vieira came on for the last 30 minutes or so. Ray Parlour was guilty of a few flying tackles, while particularly Jermaine Pennant and Giovanni van Bronckhorst showed inspiration and form. Full lineup and report at arsenal.com. Reports from the Sunday People, the Sunday Telegraph, the Independent and the Observer.
