Pardew denies whatever it was he apologised for by Rupe
on 24/11/06 at 00:09
this is story 533 of 543 in this topic to date
Arsene Wenger has pleaded guilty to an FA charge of improper conduct, relating to events towards the end of the loss to West Ham earlier in the month, but Irons manager Alan Pardew maintains his innocence.

Pardew over-celebrated Marlon Harewood's late winner a little excessively, and may or not have said something nasty (we may never know). Wenger overreacted, and was seen to push Pardew away (Pardew definitely swore at him at this point). At the end of the game, Wenger refused his opposite number's handshake, and appeared to stop his assistant Pat Rice from doing it too.

Wenger has had nothing to say about the incident since, while Pardew apologised to Wenger in his post-match interview (although in an "...if there's something to apologise for..." way).

It seems a bit of a shame that the FA needed to take things this far, given that most observers seem to accept that it was a storm in a teacup, and that it was nice to see such passion on both sides. What is there to gain from this, really?

Rupe adds...
Both managers have requested a personal hearing. Wenger has explained why, on his part, saying, "the Club have said that it is not polite not to go and explain what happened."

"I have managed for over 1,000 games and a small incident like that has happened once in that thousand times. The media has made more of it..."

"I have come out and said I overreacted. That is it. If the FA wants to hear it then I will say the same thing to them."
