Four men were arrested at The Valley, Charlton on Wednesday night in connection with police investigations of tampering with football stadium floodlights. Three, two Malaysian nationals and one Chinese, will appear in court today; a fourth, a contract security guard, was released on police bail.
Although no link has yet been proven, Arsenal fans will recall a game vs Wimbledon at Selhurst in December 97 when the lights went out just as the second half began, and the game was abandoned. The suggestion is that bets in certain countries will stand if a game is abandoned, so long as it gets past half-way - with Arsenal on a hot streak, the odds on the Dons getting a result must have been pretty good - and the game was 0-0 when darkness fell.
