UPDATE: Arseweb understands that the pitch has passed its inspection, and the game goes ahead. We haven't had rock-solid confirmation though.
You know him as the psycho-looking baldie Italian ref with the mad staring eyes... his mum knows him as Pierluigi Collina, and he's in charge of the Arsenal-Spartak game tonight (Wed).
There's reported to be a real risk that the temperature in Moscow will drop significantly from the lunchtime figure of minus-four... and Collina is worried that the pitch could freeze and become unplayable. He wants a pitch inspection two hours before kick-off... that would be 3pm UK time.
It's almost exactly a year since Leeds were caught in the same quandry, when their game at Spartak was called off at the last minute. If it is cancelled, they would probably try to stage the game tomorrow... but that's no good for the travelling support, is it?
And Arseweb bets Carlton still wouldn't televise it...
